Donations Collected for Tornado Victims

Port Arthur, Texas – (May 3, 2007) – At least 10 people are dead and hundreds more have been left homeless as a tornado tore through several neighborhoods that lay on the outskirts of Eagle Pass, TX and into Villa de Fuente, a suburb of neighboring Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.  Of the seven killed in Eagle Pass, five lost their lives when the mobile home they sought shelter in was carried away by high winds and slammed into a nearby elementary school. Within minutes, the tornado left a path of destruction that razed homes, split trees and reduced once bustling neighborhoods to piles of wood, insulation, and twisted almost unidentifiable debris.

Based on the current needs of this community, Central Mall will collect donations to support the ongoing relief effort by accepting the following items as requested by local and international authorities:

  • New under garments
  • New footwear
  • New clothing
  • Personal hygiene items

“Central Mall is deeply saddened by the tragic phenomena that occurred in Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras on April 24th” says Jodie James, Marketing & Specialty Leasing Manager, “We remember how our community was in need after Hurricane Rita and are here to serve the Eagle Pass community during these hard times.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Central Mall Information Center during mall business hours (Mon-Sat: 10am–9pm and Sun: 12-6pm) thru Sunday, May 13.  Items received will be divided and donated equally among Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras victims in care of the City of Eagle Pass and the Presidencia Municipal de Piedras Negras.

Those who wish to contribute financially may make a donation to the American Red Cross Maverick County Tornado Disaster Relief Fund Account #1410033384 at any IBC bank or contact our local American Red Cross chapter at (409) 729-1717 and reference the donation to Eagle Pass.

“In Eagle Pass–Piedras Negras, tragedy recognizes no border, and neither does love,” added Jose Rodriguez, Marketing Manager for Mall de las Aguillas, “We ask people from around the world to help the tornado victims of Rosita Valley/Villa de Fuente by donating to your local Donation Station.”

Mall de las Aguilas is a sister property in the Jones Lang LaSalle family.  All Texas based Jones Lang LaSalle shopping centers will come to the aid of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras by accepting donations from mall merchants and the general public.
